Oil Portraiture Painting of Velcro CEO
Portrait of Wil de Hollander
Chief Executive Officer ~ Velcro Industries
Oil Colour on Linen Canvas ~ 48 x 42 inches.
To mark the retirement of Mr. Wil de Hollander, C.E.O., Velcro Industries commissioned this three-quarter length portrait, the first of eleven paintings Marvin was contracted to create for them.
Wil is sitting in the boardroom with a symbolic sculpture depicting the hook-and-loop structure of Velcro's adhesive mechanism. By way of a complimentary color scheme, Marvin was able to subdue the background elements to avoid overwhelming the face. Hidden in the shadow of the sculpture is a Heineken Beer bottle cap, Wil's guilty pleasure. This subtle addition was intended to be a secret between the artist and the subject, but Wil was so excited by it's inclusion he revealed it's existence to all the attendees at the portrait's unveiling.
