Head & Shoulders Oil Portrait

This head and shoulders portrait had a very different evolution than the other portraits depicted here in these gallery pages. All the other custom portraits were commissioned prior to the start of the actual painting. In Dan's case, he was a model in Marvin's continuing education portrait painting class at the School of Visual Arts.

During the course of the class Dan showed a photo of the painting-in-progress to his mother who was so impressed, she commissioned Marvin to take it to a complete finish. Based on the hours Marvin spends on his finished work and the heavy schedules of his clients, working primarily from life is something he rarely has the opportunity to do, but loves to do it. It's not vey often that he can take a demonstration painting to this level of completion.
